Salary: £70,000 - 70,000 per year
Requirements: We are looking for strong experience as a Senior or Lead Cloud or Platform Engineer, ideally in Azure-first or Azure-centric environments.We need deep understanding of Azure core services, especially Entra ID (Azure AD), RBAC, Privileged Identity Management, Management Groups, Subscriptions, Azure Policy, Azure networking (vNets, hub and spoke, Private Endpoints, Firewalls, Express Route), logging, monitoring, and cost management.We require strong theoretical knowledge and practical experience in Infrastructure as Code, including Bicep, Terraform, and ARM.We are looking for practical experience embedding cloud security and governance at scale.We value collaborative working across engineering, architecture, and security.We need the ability to explain complex cloud concepts in a clear, approachable way to a wide audience.We prefer hands-on delivery of Azure Landing Zones in enterprise-scale environments.Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-400, AZ-500, and AZ-700 are desirable.Experience enabling CI/CD for platform services is desirable.Experience provisioning virtual machine images using Image Builder or Packer and Desired State Configuration to security harden them is desirable.Knowledge of Enterprise Azure Policy as Code (EPAC) is desirable.Familiarity with FinOps or cloud cost optimisation practices is desirable.We value proficiency with source control systems and editors/IDEs.We expect comfort programming in a contemporary object-oriented language.We need a solid grasp of cloud computing principles.We value passion for mentoring, learning, and sharing knowledge.We look for curiosity and enthusiasm for keeping skills up to date.We want someone who thrives in an agile, collaborative environment. Responsibilities: We will have you own the design and evolution of Azure Landing Zones aligned to Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework and enterprise good practices.You will define and enforce platform standards for networking, identity, security, governance, and cost management.You will build and maintain infrastructure as code to deliver repeatable, self-service platform capabilities.You will own core Azure services including Management Groups, Subscriptions, Azure Policy, RBAC, networking, and monitoring.You will embed security by design, including identity, zero trust principles, logging, and threat protection.You will partner with application and product teams to enable smooth onboarding onto the platform.You will act as a technical leader and mentor for other cloud platform engineers.You will influence cloud strategy and roadmap, balancing long-term architecture with pragmatic delivery.You will support platform operations, reliability, and continual improvement. We are Ordnance Survey, and we are hiring a Lead Engineer to join our Cloud Platform team in a hands-on leadership role focused on building and evolving our Azure cloud platform, with Azure Landing Zones at its core. This is a hybrid position based at our HQ in Southampton, Hampshire, where you will spend 50% of your working week collaborating face-to-face with colleagues.
