About this role

Job summary

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a fixed term Locum Clinical Fellow at DCT level to join our busy Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery team. This post is full time, paid at MT03 on the NHS pay scale.

The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary but will also involve clinical activity at other sites within the Trust.

The post holder will be working under the guidance and supervision of the Oral & Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Consultants. This will be as part of the wider Maxillofacial team. The post is part of the 1st On Call rota on a 1-in-5 rolling rota including evenings until 10pm and weekends/bank holidays from 8am to 10pm.

This is a full-time, fixed term post to allow the post holder to gain additional clinical skills and experience to enable their continuing development working at DCT2 level. It will include the opportunity to gain further experience in the management of

Dentoalveolar surgery

Management of cysts of the jaws

Management of salivary gland disease and pathology

Oral Medicine

Maxillofacial Trauma

Head & Neck Cancer assessment and diagnosis

Orthognathic Surgery

Management of non-melanotic skin cancer of the head & neck

Participation in the diagnosis & management of complex hypodontia, trauma and oncology patients in conjunction with Restorative & Orthodontic colleagues.

The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLan School of Dentistry in Preston.

You should be fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice as a Dentist in England.

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

The Unit provides a comprehensive secondary care service in all aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. We work in partnership with other centres in the region under the supervision of the regional Managed Clinical Networks.

The unit consists of 2 Consultants in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, 1 Consultant in Oral Surgery, 4 Specialty Doctors, 1 Specialty Trainee in Oral Surgery and 1 Resident Dentist.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Full registration with the GDC as a dentist BDS or equivalent undergraduate degree from a recognised university

Desirable

MFDS or recognised equivalent qualification

Experience Essential

Applicants must have evidence of at least 12 months whole time equivalent postgraduate clinical experience to the full scope of a dentist by time of post commencement

Desirable

Experience in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery or Oral surgery

Other Essential

Ability to travel independently to meet the needs of the post Eligible to work in the UK
