Job summary
Doncaster and Bassetlaw Internal transport department provide a range of essential transport services to various care divisions across all the Trust sites and within the local communities.
In order to maintain service continuity we are required to carry a number of trained driver personnel who are job ready and who have the skill, knowledge and awareness of the various service requirements associated with Internal transport services across the Trust sites.
Main duties of the job
To undertake all driver and other authorized duties, as required and directed, in order to provide a transport service to meet the needs of the Trust, its patients and service users.
To observe all regulations governing the driving and use of vehicles on the public highways.
To provide a reliable, safe, courteous, comfortable and timely transport service for patients, staff, health related equipment and materials within the Doncaster & Bassetlaw health community.
To understand the needs of individuals being transported and to develop high standards in relation to customer care for all users, taking into account their social, health, including mobility and any personal circumstances.
To undertake daily, such checks as are reasonable to ensure that the vehicle to be driven complies with the requirements of the law and is in running order, for example:-
- Fuel, oil and coolant
- Brakes and steering
- Lights and reflectors, stop lights and indicators
- Windscreen wipers and washers, horn
- Care and attention to batteries
Complete and sign daily checklists and vehicle logbook documentation.

Provide driver cover for colleagues in the event of annual leave and sickness.

Qualifications & Training Essential
Full, clean driving licence Category D1 element on licence or Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence
Desirable
Customer Care Training. Health & Safety training
Knowledge & Experience Essential
Driving experience and knowledge of vehicle daily checks and road traffic regulations.
Desirable
Knowledge of Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Mexborough and North Notts Previous experience of working in NHS or Health care organisation
Personal Attributes & Skills Essential
Demonstrate the ability to communicate with others both verbally and in writing
Desirable
Develop and maintain a courteous, professional manner and appearance that supports a quality approach to service delivery
