At St Margaret's Hospice Care, every role makes a difference.

We provide compassionate care to patients and families. Our team is looking for a Housekeeper to help create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across our hospice.

Taunton £25,305.76 per annum pro rata Shifts between 7am - 6pm, worked on a rota across 7 days Free on-site parking We have different hours available and are happy to discuss what works best for you. Bank work can also be considered.

Experience in cleaning, healthcare, or hospitality is welcome but not essential, as full training and induction will be provided.

Main duties of the job

This is more than a cleaning role - its about supporting patient care, dignity, and comfort.

You'll work as part of a supportive team, maintaining high standards of cleanliness across clinical and non-clinical areas.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Housekeeper is a valued member of the Hotel Services team, responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention throughout St Margarets Hospice. The role plays an important part in supporting patient comfort, dignity, staff wellbeing, and a safe environment by delivering consistent, high quality cleaning practices in line with NHS Cleaning Standards, National Colour Coding, and hospice policies.

As part of the wider hospice team, the postholder helps create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment where patients and families feel cared for and respected. The postholder will always demonstrate the hospice values, providing compassionate, respectful, and patient-centred support across all areas

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications Essential

Basic literacy and numeracy skills. Basic IT Skills

Desirable

Level 2 qualification in Cleaning or Support Services (or a willingness to work towards) Willingness to undertake training relevant to specialist palliative care specialist palliative care

Self Awareness Essential

Able to work under pressure and adapt to changing service needs Demonstrate a flexible and positive approach to work Willingness to participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvement

Desirable

Experience of working in a healthcare or similar environment

Working with others Essential

Works effectively as part of a team Communicates clearly and respectfully with colleagues, patients, and visitors Builds positive working relationships

Desirable

Experience supporting or inducting new team members Some understanding of working within a clinical or care environment

Outcome and Results Essential

Knowledge of NHS Cleaning standards and National Colour Coding (or willingness to learn) Understanding of regulations and safe use of cleaning chemicals Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines

Desirable

Knowledge of Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 Understanding of the role of housekeeping within a hospice or healthcare setting

Leading in your area Essential

Demonstrate a respectful, non-judgemental, and caring approach Takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety Works consistently to meet required cleaning and audit standards Willingness to work flexible shift patterns to meet service needs Flexibility to support service cover, including occasional short- notice changes where required
