About this role

Job summary

The post holder would be expected to undertake a wide range audiological investigations, which may be of a specialist nature on adults, children and babies.

Additionally, to plan and deliver complex audiological and rehabilitative treatments on adult patients who have hearing impairments and that may have complex additional needs i.e. patients who have mental health problems, disabilities and tinnitus.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 6 months to cover maternity leave. Anyone wishing to apply for the post as a secondment must seek approval from their Line Manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

o Hearing aid fitting and verification to fit digital hearing aids and perform real ear measurements on school age children with a high degree of accuracy and dexterity.

o See direct access paediatric assessment where medical involvement is not required.

o Perform ear examinations.

o Complete outcome measures or other quality of life questionnaires.

o Contribute to day-to-day departmental management.

The post holder will carry out any other duties that are deemed appropriate for this banding to support the efficient running of the Audiology Department.

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. Whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to communicate in Welsh during routine clinical situations, such as welcoming patients, discussing straightforward aspects of their care and answering routine questions. Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

BSc (Hons) Audiology from an accredited University or possess equivalent qualifications, skills and knowledge. Be registered with an appropriate registration body. In depth knowledge and experience of assessment techniques and rehabilitation programmes. In depth knowledge of assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation. Knowledge and skills of assessment tools relevant to audiological diagnosis.

Desirable

Knowledge of Paediatric and Adult standards.

Skills Essential

Ability to communicate clearly with hearing impaired people of all ages and their families. Skills in assessment and rehabilitation of patients with deafness. Diagnostic skills. Ability to work alone. Computer literate.

Desirable

Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above

Experience Essential

Significant experience in Audiology.

Desirable

Experience in Paediatric Audiology.

Additional Essential

Flexibility to the service. Able to prioritise own tasks and workload. Ability to adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to travel between UHB sites and locations in a timely manner.
