Launched in 2022 by Kepler, Kepler College offers job-driven, competency-based higher education to talented but economically disadvantaged young Africans. Our programs equip learners with labor market-relevant competencies and 21st-century skills, empowering them to build successful and fulfilling careers.

To ensure access for all, we serve students from marginalized economic backgrounds and offer ethical student financing through the Future of Work Fund, created and managed by Chancen International. This fund enables learners to pursue their studies through Income Share Agreements, ensuring affordability and inclusivity.

Beyond our own programs, Kepler College shares insights with the wider higher education community in Rwanda and across Africa. Through technical assistance and partnerships, including our work with Ashesi University’s Education Collaborative East Africa Hub, we support other institutions to strengthen their employment outcomes.

About the Role:

The role includes supporting the careers team in implementing and strengthening developed, structured protocol for internship and job placement, career coaching model that increases various stakeholder engagement, and supporting employers as they seek to fill key roles by implementing efficient and user-friendly methods of engagement and communication. Supporting students in delivering workshops, advising and coaching in varying group sizes, networking through external forums to expand the Kepler College employer base in collaboration with careerGuidance Manager and Academic Advising teams and other departments to create job opportunities through staff networks.

This position has non-traditional work hours that may require starting work early or finishing work late, and/or working weekends. The position is equivalent to 45 work hours/week with some fluctuation throughout the year.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with the career team in supporting the implementation of student career support to facilitate career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation.

• Deliver individual and group coaching sessions to assist students in determining their interests, and abilities, make informed career decisions,s and guide their career development preparation

• In collaboration with the Careers Guidance Manager, and other career team members to implement alumni big sibling/little sibling coaching protocol

• Collaborate with the Curriculum Team and Dean of Faculty to deliver and teach careers-based courses.

• Delivering networking events and other opportunities for students to engage with employers.

• Implement a structured feedback loop that contributes to strategy and decision-making for expanding the internship and employment program.

• Collaborate with other departments at Kepler College in improving communication with the careers team, both internally and externally.

• Grade competency-based work and deliver student feedback on time (48-hour turnaround max).

• Help the team with data to make informed decisions to guarantee all student’s progress through the curriculum

• Deliver optional and mandatory office hours through a variety of formats: workshop, 1:1 conferences, group supported work time, etc.

• Collaborate with the Career Guidance Manager and Director of Careers and Alumni Affairs to seek internship and job opportunities for students and Alumni

• Collaborate with both the registration, Digital Learning and Innovation department and careers team to track, utilize and communicate employment data to the broader academic team

• Any other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor or director of the careers and Alumni Affairs department

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Education( Career Guidance and Counseling and Psychology) Social Work, Communication and Public relations, Business Administration or a related field with Certification in Career Development.

• At least one year of experience in career support services, teaching, and recruiting

• Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.

• A motivational leader who displays sound judgment and attention to detail.

• Detail-oriented with excellent time-management skills.

• Confident interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English, Kinyarwanda, or French is an added advantage.

• Demonstrates a strong desire to implement education through a process model of learning, implementing, reflecting, revising and re-implementing

• Has the ability to be creative and innovative in the way that education can be created and delivered to students

• Possesses functional knowledge and/or personal experience with technology: Microsoft Suite, Google Drive, Google Chrome

• Comfortable with not having or providing answers to students through an inquiry-based model where the facilitator of the class is not the “keeper” of all knowledge

• Finds comfort in discussing and promoting Kepler and its students.
