About the Role
The Teaching Assistant position at Kepler College is a distinctive, entry-level opportunity ideal for recent graduates who are passionate about building a career in education. It is designed for those who want to practice and grow their skills as a budding educator while gaining hands-on experience in a humanitarian setting.
Based at Kepler's campus within Kiziba Refugee Camp, Teaching Assistants facilitate lessons through a structured lesson plan, adapt curriculum to best meet student needs, use data to support diverse learners, and collaborate closely with colleagues to holistically develop every student. The role combines classroom instruction with one-to-one coaching, curriculum development, and ongoing professional growth: an ideal launching pad for anyone committed to expanding access to quality education.
Responsibilities:
• Instruct non-native English speakers to rapidly improve English fluency through a competency-based, blended learning curriculum
• Facilitate large and small group classes across a variety of content areas
• Apply online, in-person, and blended learning techniques to support program innovation
• Provide individualized support and advice through one-to-one coaching sessions
• Conduct optional and mandatory office hours through a variety of formats
• In collaboration relevant teams, create or modify lesson plans as needed, following the specified format
• Engage in team meetings to collaborate on and build quality support materials for students
• Grade competency-based work and provide student feedback within a 48-hour turnaround
• Use student data to make informed decisions that keep all students progressing through the curriculum
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of student performance as assigned, including attendance
• Collaborate with peers to share best practices and innovations from the classroom
• Participate in the Kepler Teaching Essential Observation process as outlined by administration
• Participate in Professional Development sessions
• Identify and help implement innovative solutions to challenges within the refugee camp that interfere with student learning
• Lead assigned or self-initiated projects and initiatives
• Take on other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications & Eligibility
• Bachelor Degree
• Experience in teaching or learning facilitation (experience teaching or training others in technology or research is a strong plus)
• Excellent writing and language skills in English, including the ability to effectively communicate information
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
• Highly motivated with a passion for education
• Has high expectations of him/herself and believes in high expectations for students
• Is open and willing to give and receive feedback
