This includes geotechnical drilling supervision, core and soil logging, televiewer survey management, rock mass characterization, structural data interpretation, geotechnical block modelling, and slope stability assessment. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
• Supervise geotechnical investigation drilling programs, ensuring high-quality core recovery with accurate and consistent orientation markings that meet project standards.
• Ensure drilling sites are prepared in advance of drilling and all requirements for each drill site are in place
• Carry out lithological and structural logging of geological and geotechnical exploration holes on the drilling site or in the core shed.
• Ensure the core is properly secured and transported to the core shed for storage ore further processing
• Carry out point load testing on core pieces, ensuring test procedures and data recording meet required standards.
• Ensure that core samples for rock strength testing are selected and well preserved in readiness for shipping to the Labs for testing.
• Accurately and timeously enter all geotechnical logging data into the project geotechnical database, ensuring completeness, consistency, and compliance with data entry protocols
• Conduct regular data validation and quality checks to identify and resolve errors or inconsistencies in logged and entered data
• Maintain organised and up-to-date records of all field data, test results, sample registers, and drilling reports
• Continually improve their geotechnical skills by way of working through the geotechnical skills matrix and seeking guidance and mentorship from the Geotechnical Coordinator.
• Carry out rock mass characterisation from logging data, including calculation and interpretation of geotechnical indices such as RQD, RMR, Q-system, and GSI
• Perform structural data interpretation and analysis using Dips software, including stereonet analysis, kinematic failure assessments, and identification of critical structural domains
• Develop and update geotechnical block models integrating logging data, laboratory test results, and structural interpretations to support mine design and planning
• Contribute to slope stability assessments and building stability models, providing well-reasoned geotechnical recommendations based on field and analytical data
• Assist the Senior Geotechnical Engineer in the preparation of geotechnical reports, data summaries, and technical memoranda for various stages of project development
