Grounds Worker - Tuesday thru Saturday schedule Work Year : 12 months Hours: 6am to 2:30, Tuesday through Saturday Salary information: Range 22 Basic Functions: To perform grounds maintenance and gardening work as assigned for the District. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a departmental director or designee within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job performs a variety of general grounds gardening and maintenance duties in the upkeep of assigned school sites and related areas. Typical Duties
• Plants, cultivates, prunes, shapes, trims, water s and sprays trees, shrubs, hedges and plants
• Plants, fertilizes, waters, mows, and cares for lawns
• Operates hand and power tools and equipment including power mowers, edgers, sweepers, riding mowers and other grounds maintenance equipment/tools
• Uses hand tools to work soil and to remove weeds, undergrowth and debris from school grounds and landscaped areas
• Sweeps walks and driveways and picks up paper, rubbish and other debris
• Applies pesticides and herbicides to grounds and garden areas for pest/weed control purposes
• Cleans sprinklers and sprinkler systems and assists in the installation and repair of sprinkler systems
• Cleans and maintains drainage areas; cleans gutters and roofs
• Prepares athletic fields for scheduled events by mowing and lining fields with chalk lines for specific sporting events
• Performs general grounds maintenance work such as removing and replacing fences posts and signs
• Ability to drive dump truck and/or tractor as assigned; operated a fork lift as assigned
• Ability to maintain hoses, supplies, tools and equipment in proper condition and repair
• Ability to move furniture as assigned
• Ability to assist with a variety of general custodial and maintenance duties as assigned
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
• Performs other duties consistent with job description
Employment Standards
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License
• Knowledge of grounds keeping and gardening methods and practices
• Knowledge of the safe use, maintenance and operation of grounds keeping tools and power equipment
• Ability to effectively and safely use hand and power tools associated with grounds keeping and gardening work
• Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
• Ability to read and write at a level necessary to perform required duties successfully
• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties
• Ability to meet the physical requirement of the job.
