POSITION TITLE: VAN DRIVER DEPARTMENT: TRANSPORTATION FLSA: Hourly GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports District schools and principals in their effort to foster an optimal educational environment for students. Driving the van on runs as assigned, ensuring the safety of the student passengers. MAJOR DUTIES: • Transports students to and from school and on educational field trips, as assigned. • Furnishes student passengers constant leadership in matters of good behavior, manners and language. • Drives school van over a designated route in conformity with an established time schedule. • Cooperates with principals, teachers, and other appropriate persons in the solution of problems that affect the welfare of children with whom they have joint association. • Works in cooperation with vehicle maintenance personnel toward seeing that necessary repairs are made or that potential problems are avoided. • Completes the State Department of Public Safety Refresher Course, as required. • Performs daily pre-trip inspections as required by State regulations. • Performs other job related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • High school graduate, or equivalent. • Knowledge of state and local laws applicable to the operation of vehicles used for transportation of school children. • Ability to solve problems induced by weather, traffic conditions, or unruly children. • Have or be willing to obtain current First Aid and CPR Certification. • Trained in Defensive Driving. • Familiar with and supportive of the Discipline Programs used in the District's schools. • Ability to keep simple records. • Ability to set a good example of confidence in handling the vans and working with students • Effective interpersonal and communicative skills. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have regular and reliable attendance, is regularly required to sit, ride long distances on a District Van (could be over bumpy roads), talk and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; bend at the knees, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools and/or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Use of computer is occasional. POSITION TITLE: VAN DRIVER DEPARTMENT: TRANSPORTATION ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Physical Demands: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 125 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Random drug and alcohol testing. Van drivers must also pass a D.O.T. physical, vision test, drug and alcohol test and a physical agility test. Blood pressure must not be higher than 140 over 90. Drivers are also required to be certified in both First Aid and CPR.
