Job Title: Bus Aide Job Code Number: 175 Department: Transportation Reports To: Transportation Director Contracted Days: 175 Position Summary: Assist bus drivers in safely transporting school age students to and from school and to school sponsored events. Minimum Qualifications/Job Requirements: Education: High School diploma or equivalent required Experience: Experience with K-12 special education students preferred The Board of Education and Superintendent may approve alternatives to some of the listed qualifications. Customer Contacts: Internal: Students, teachers, principal External: Parents Performance Responsibilities:
• Assist bus drivers with student discipline during daily bus routes
• Follow the established disciplinary procedures for students not following bus rules
• Assist in transporting students with special needs
• Operate the wheel chair lift and secure wheelchairs
• Transfer students from a wheelchair to a bus seat
• Secure students in child safety restraint harnesses
• Any other activities required to insure the safe transportation of students
Working Conditions – Typical working conditions are in a school bus environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gasses are possible. Noise level is usually moderate as in a bus environment. No environmental hazards are encountered in the normal performance of duties. Physical Demands – Work requires securing wheel chairs and seat belts. Some students require assistance moving getting into a seat and being secured in the seat. Work may require picking up, assisting movement of students.
