About this role

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for Ward Clerk in the Ophthalmology Department

To provide an efficient, effective and comprehensive administrative support for the department.

Duties will include administrative tasks such as record keeping, data entry, filing and scanning.

Dealing with telephone queries, checking and updating patient information with clinical staff, managers and patients.

Communicating information verbally and in writing, providing routine information for patients and staff, for example discharge, admission, transfers and making appointments.

May be required to handle barriers to understanding for example anxious patients, relatives, cultural differences, and language or communication difficulties.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunities have arisen to join a friendly team, working within Ophthalmology.

Duties will include updating patient management systems, answering calls and greeting patients/relatives, preparing notes and supporting the nursing team with all aspects of ward administration. Booking return patients for various appointments and scans.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

High level of literacy and numeracy GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths

Experience Essential

Demonstrable experience of administrative & clerical systems and processes Fully conversant with information and other IT systems. Experience in Microsoft including Outlook, Word and Excel

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Ability to deal with difficult/anxious people using tact and diplomacy. Excellent organisational skills to manage own workload and assist in running a smooth service.
