Main duties of the job What You'll Be Doing
No two days are the same in this varied and rewarding role! Working alongside our GPs and wider Practice Team, you'll be at the heart of patient care, combining hands on clinical work with essential administrative support.
From carrying out ECGs, blood pressure checks, venepuncture and NHS Health Checks, to managing patient recalls, reviewing clinical correspondence and keeping patient records accurate, you'll play a key role in helping the practice run smoothly.

Who We Are
We are a friendly, forward thinking practice serving over 12,000 patients across two sites in Wem and Prees, both offering convenient free parking. We pride ourselves on a supportive culture, strong team ethos, and our reputation as a high-quality training practice for GP Registrars and medical students.
Our Team
Our experienced and collaborative team includes seven GP Partners, three salaried GPs, three Advanced Clinical Practitioners, and growing Nursing, Administrative, Dispensary, and Data teams. We are a veteran-friendly practice and operate from modern premises, supported by a well established PCN team. We use EMIS Web and maintain a strong CQC rating.

Job description Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of the General Practice Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
Support the Practice in the smooth running of the surgery by handling and managing routine administration.
To work within the Data Team including workflow, extracting information from clinical letters that require coding, capture patient data, child immunisation administration, to help manage patient recalls and follow ups as directed by the GPs.
Supporting the practice with audit and data quality improvement tasks.
Opportunity to gain clinical skills in ECGs, BP and Venepuncture, pre BMR (Birth Month Review), NHS Health Checks, Wound Care, Diabetic foot checks etc Deal with tasks relating to DMARDS, TQUEST Management, BP monitoring.
Ordering of medical equipment and supplies, stock taking, preparing and maintaining clinical equipment and consultation rooms.
Chaperoning patients during examinations or procedures.
The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Practice Manager, dependent on current and evolving GP/practice workload and staffing levels and may include:
Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required from time to time, including, filing and retrieving paperwork and scanning and EMIS Housekeeping. Computer data entry, data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures Sharing responsibility for keeping all Administration areas tidy and clutter free
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Experience in a health care setting.
Desirable
Previous experience working in a GP practice, NHS or healthcare setting. Knowledge of EMIS Web or other clinical systems. NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care, Care Certificate or equivalent healthcare qualification. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
Qualifications Essential
Good standard of education including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above).
Desirable
Experience of working in Primary care and using Emis web clinical system
