Job summary

Applications are invitedforasubstantive consultant position,joiningthe department of paediatric anaesthesiaat Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children provides secondary and tertiary health services for thesouthwestof England and south Walesregions,beingthe site of regional and supra-regional services in paediatric oncology, bone marrow transplantation, cardiology, cardiac surgery, paediatric surgery, intensive care, neurology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, nephrology, neurosurgery, plastics and burns.

The successful applicant will join a welcoming department of 26 consultant paediatric anaesthetists to provide emergency and scheduled anaesthetic care for patients having surgery for a wide range of surgical specialties. The post is a full time with direct clinical care, composed of weekday theatre sessions and a full on-call evening and weekend commitment. Consultants receive 1.5 sPA allocation for CPD purposes alongside departmental contributions. We welcome applicants with subspecialty expertise to both complement existing group activities and develop the department's skills and profile.

Main duties of the job

Bristol Children's Hospital is part of Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest foundation trusts in the country, following a recent merger of the North Bristol & University Hospitals Bristol Trusts with strong links to the University of Bristol and University of the West of England.Applicants are required to be on the GMC's Specialist Register (or to achieve it within 6 months of the time of interview by CCT or CESR) and have at least 12 months suitable Paediatric anaesthesia subspecialty experience in a recognised centre in the UK or abroad.

Category Qualifications & Training Essential

Full registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC). Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia (or equivalent specialist registration), or within 6 months of the expected CCT date at the time of interview. Evidence of advanced training and experience in paediatric anaesthesia appropriate to the post.

Desirable

Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent

Experience Essential

Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in paediatric anaesthesia. Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

Clinical Knowledge and Skills Essential
