About this role

Job summary

We have an opportunity for an experienced Communications Officer to join the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) communications team.

This role will work as a key member of the External Communications team, leading on planning and delivering proactive stories, delivering photos and video content for social media, responding to media enquiries to a busy 999 service, and helping plan updates for major stakeholders such as MPs.

Main duties of the job

Must have experience of managing media and helping deliver external communications campaigns . Will contribute to the successful overall performance of EEAST by planning and delivering external communications, managing media enquiries, and planning social media content. The role will also be required to take and edit photographs and video content. Evaluate and report on external news engagement to ensure performance informs future planning. Empathise with the EEAST values of quality, teamwork, respect, care, and honesty. Will be confident in designing and producing a range of written communications materials.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree in Media, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Personal Qualities, Abilities and Attributes Essential

Ability to handle sensitive and complex media situations with professionalism. Commitment to Continuous Professional Development.

Skills and Knowledge Essential

Ability to work with journalists and manage media inquiries. Knowledge and understanding of the media and how they operate (print, broadcast, social and digital) and ability to respond to media requests.

Experience Essential

Significant experience in media relations, public affairs, or external communications. Experience of managing external communications campaigns and public engagement. Experience of responding to media requests and proactively seeking opportunities. Experience of working in complex organisations and delivering communication projects.

Desirable

Experience of working with public sector or emergency services.
