About this role

Job summary

The TSSU (Sterile Services) department is an enthusiastic team who work in a busy fast paced department. The Sterile Services Department reprocesses surgical instruments for the Trust and surrounding areas. The Trust is not only tackling the waiting list backlog following the Covid pandemic but has also increased in Trauma procedures at the WRH. This has created more Sterile Services Assistant job opportunities within the TSSU department. The shifts available are 2pm to 8pm Monday to Friday. This is a physically demanding role with repetitive tasks. This role involves periods of standing and manual handling duties with some sets weighing up to 13KG. The department offers a six month on the job training programme. The department is looking to offer an NVQ qualification in the future. Opportunities do arise within the department to progress to a Supervisor and potentially a future manager.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are the collection of used surgical instruments, preparing the instruments for the washer disinfector. The reassembly of the surgical instrument trays, closely inspecting for cleanliness and damage, wrapping of the surgical instruments. The sterilisation and delivery of the reprocessed surgical instruments.

Job description Job responsibilities

To undertake general duties within the Sterile Services Department including cleaning, inspecting, testing, assembling, checking, packing and sterilising of theatre instruments, ward instruments and operating theatre instrument trays. To collect and deliver items to Wards, Departments and Theatres

Qualifications Desirable

Recognised qualification in Sterile Services IDSC, NVQ or similar

Experience Desirable

Previous work in Sterile Services or clean room manufacturing department/hospital setting
