About this role

Nutritionist – Food Service Blue Springs School District 2026-2027 School Year Position Summary:

The job of Nutritionist is done for the purpose of providing high quality, nutritionally sound meals to the students of the Blue Springs School District. Speci?cally, to assist the Director of Food Services in the purchasing and planning of all meals served in the Blue Springs School District and provide nutritional analysis for planned menus.

• This job reports to the Director of Technology.

• This is a Full Time (260 day,7.5 hr. per day) benefits eligible position.

• The starting salary for this position is $48,097 - $76,158.49. Salary will be commensurate with full-time, parallel years of experience.

Essential Functions:

• Supports the mission of Blue Springs School to ensure the delivery of nutritional meals to students

• Ensures compliance with the privacy rights of students and safeguards con?dential and/or sensitive information.

• Keeps abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.

• Maintains accurate records and ?ling systems for accountability and audit purposes.

• Ensures that all activities conform to district, state, or federal guidelines.

• Play a signi?cant role in menu planning and nutritional analysis

• Assist in document preparation for internal and external audits

• Ensure menus meet the federal government nutrition standards

• Coordinates and oversees nutrition accommodations for students with food allergies, dietary restrictions, food intolerances and special dietary needs, communicating with district staff, nurses and stakeholders to ensure safe meal preparation.

• Assist in training Child Nutrition Services Personnel in Standardized Recipes Conduct Pre-Cost Analysis

• Oversee vending/competitive food sales to ensure compliance with District, State and Federal policies

• Play a signi?cant role in the management of the item Nutritional Database

• Utilize government commodities according to federal guidelines when planning menus

• Assist with the procurement of food and supplies funded by the Child Nutrition Services budget

• Assist in sta? and substitute training program.

• Maintain discretion with con?dential information

Other Functions:

• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, presents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include knowledge of nutritional standards for PreK – 12th grade; understanding of Free and Reduced Lunch regulations; knowledge of food allergens and possible modification or accommodations.

Ability is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing work priorities; establishing effective working relationships; displaying mechanical aptitude; communicating with technologically diverse groups; being attentive to detail; and working under time constraints.

Responsibility:

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization's services.

Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 75% sitting, 10% walking, and 15% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
