About this role
Under the supervision of the ARC Manager, the ARC Building Custodian will be responsible for efficiently performing maintenance, repair and other tasks required for the operation of the Midlothian Park District’s Athletic and Recreation Center.
Qualifications
· High school diploma with a background in maintenance preferred.
· Basic knowledge of construction, janitorial skills, plumbing, electrical and mechanical skills.
· Self-starter who can identify necessary repair work and execute it.
· Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
· Willing to work beyond regular hours if necessary.
· Proficient in the use of power tools and hand tools.
· Experience working a building/park maintenance setting preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Operate and maintain park maintenance equipment.
· Set up and cleanup programs and activities as assigned.
· General building maintenance and repairs including roofs, doors, windows, cleaning and minor electrical, plumbing, and heating systems.
· Makes effective use of available materials and resources to accomplish assigned duties.
· Inspect, repair, build, paint and clean tables and chairs.
· Paint walls, equipment, signs and other items.
· Clean washrooms, toilets and other public use areas.
· Remove all garbage from buildings and grounds and haul to designated dumpster.
· Clean, wash, lubricate and maintain equipment and tools.
· Keep inventory of all building cleaning and janitorial supplies and let Manager know when supplies need to be ordered.
· Attend seminars and workshops to further professional growth and knowledge.
· Assist with setup, teardown and operation of special events and functions.
· Recommend departmental improvements and efficiency measures.
· Must perform assigned tasks in a safe manor and follow safety policies and procedures.
· Performs other tasks as assigned.

· May experience stress while trying to please the public and the staff.
Physiological Considerations
· Moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, pulling.
· May be necessary to work in extreme weather conditions.
· May be necessary to work long hours.
· Considerable periods of standing/sitting.
Environmental Considerations
· May be exposed to varying weather conditions.
· May be exposed to bee stings and other insect bites.
