About this role
We are looking for a Estimation & Design Engineer to support the Estimating Department across project cost analysis, bid preparation, and material procurement This role is responsible for analyzing project requirements, interpreting electrical drawings and specifications, obtaining quotes for subcontracted work, defining material needs, applying value engineering techniques, and preparing comprehensive estimates to ensure projects are executed successfully within budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities
• Actively contribute to the Estimating Department by performing estimating activities, including estimating, planning, determining preliminary project cost and schedule, coordinating estimating activities, performing equipment and material take-offs, sending vendor and subcontractor quotations, and preparing the final cost estimate and scope of work.
• Prepare accurate and complete budgets and bids, submitting them after thorough review and necessary adjustments in collaboration with lead estimators and the operations team.
• Analyse and review proposals to ensure project profitability and alignment with company objectives.
• Review pre-construction schedules, contractual obligations, and deliverables, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to deadlines.
• Develop and track bids and budget estimates from the pre-concept design stage to the construction document stage.
• Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities to present to clients, helping them meet budget constraints without compromising quality.
• Recognise discrepancies or errors in project documents, raise RFIs, and ensure timely resolution to avoid project delays.
• Prepare shop drawings and build sheets during project execution stages to facilitate the project management department.
• Utilise computer-assisted design and engineering tools, such as AutoCAD, to perform a variety of technical engineering tasks.
• Develop scope letters for each bid and budget, review bids from subcontractors, review scopes of work, and analyse costs as bids are received.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings to provide updates on project conditions, discuss estimate totals, and incorporate value engineering solutions as needed.
• This role might require working on the Eastern Standard Time (EST) shift to meet operational and business needs; the Jr. E&D engineer may be required to rotate between local office hours and EST hours. Such rotation will be planned and communicated by the company.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering, or related fields.
• 3-5 years of experience in MEP design or Estimation.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, residential load distribution, and electrical codes.
• Familiarity with estimating software such as Conest Surecount and IntelliBid.
• A good understanding of electrical design in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Plan Swift, and Bluebeam.
