POSITION: Long Term Substitute: Grade 2 Teacher LOCATION: Pell Elementary REPORTS TO: Building Principal COVERAGE PERIOD: September 2026- December 2026 EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: Must hold a valid RI Certification: Elementary Education Teacher, Grades 1-6; Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student; Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process; Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, education experience, teaching, educational experience, and the interview process; Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training; Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and appropriate. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides learning experiences in reading, language arts, pre-reading, arithmetic, science, art, health, physical education, and music to students, utilizing courses of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities; Develops lesson plans, and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student; Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction; Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom; Evaluates students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports; Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program; Identifies students' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems; Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers; Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities; Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides, maintains required inventory records; Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day; Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program; Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom; Participates in curriculum development programs as required; Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities; Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per diem - $175/day Applicants are not to approach members of the Newport School Committee.
