About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate neonatal trainee doctor with excellent leadership and communication skills to join the world’s largest clinical trials programme on neonatal encephalopathy, undertaking challenging but critically important clinical trials that make a generational difference to babies with hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy in the UK and around the world. What you would be doing

You will be working in the Centre for Perinatal Neuroscience under Professor Sudhin Thayyil. You will provide clinical leadership for the research programme, working closely with neonatal consultants and resident doctors from over 50 NHS hospitals, as well as selected centres in Canada, Europe and Australia. You will lead the standardisation and training of neurological assessment and support recruitment to two major multi-centre clinical trials – COMET (Cooling in Mild Encephalopathy) and the CAFFEINE trial (Caffeine in Moderate or Severe Encephalopathy). You will also lead the MRI and EEG analysis and work closely with machine learning experts at the world-leading artificial intelligence group at Imperial College London.

What we are looking for

You will be an ambitious and enthusiastic neonatal resident doctor (ST3–8) or have recently obtained a CCT in Neonatal Medicine, with a strong interest in neonatal neurology and research. Although prior research experience is not mandatory, you should have excellent attention to detail, the ability to analyse and interpret clinical data, and a willingness to learn more advanced research methodologies by taking full advantage of the opportunities and collaborations available at Imperial College London. You will gain experience in various aspects of neonatal brain injury, neuroimaging and neuroprotection trials, including writing academic papers and fellowship applications. You will also have access to the various training programmes organised by the Imperial Clinical Academic Training Office.
