Community Grounds Person / Caretaker (Weekends only) Location: CPI Community Centre Reports To: Community Centre Manager Job Purpose The Community Grounds Person / Caretaker is responsible for maintaining the community centre, its grounds, and outdoor areas to ensure they are safe, clean, and welcoming. The role includes grounds maintenance, basic building upkeep, health and safety, cleaning, and supporting community activities. Key Responsibilities Maintain lawns, gardens, pathways, car parks, and outdoor spaces. Cut grass, trim hedges, weed, litter pick, and empty bins. Carry out routine building checks and minor maintenance repairs. Open and secure the community centre as required. Maintain a safe environment by reporting hazards and following health and safety procedures. Assist with cleaning, room set-up, and community events. Safely operate and maintain grounds equipment and tools. Support staff, volunteers, and community groups in the day-to-day running of the centre. Person Specification Essential Practical gardening and maintenance skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good organisational and communication skills. Reliable, trustworthy, and physically capable of outdoor manual work. Awareness of health and safety practices. Desirable Experience in grounds maintenance, caretaking, or facilities management. Basic skills in painting, carpentry, plumbing, or general repairs. Manual Handling and First Aid training. Experience working in a community setting. Eligibility This position is supported by the Department of Social Protection's Community Employment (CE) Programme. Applicants must: Be aged 21 years or over. Be in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment for at least 12 months (or be a qualifying adult). Meet Community Employment eligibility criteria (eligibility can be checked with the CE Supervisor or your local Intreo Office). Training and accredited courses will be provided throughout the placement.
