About this role

Job summary

Working across the Division, the Business Manager will support General Manager (GM) to ensure the provision of high quality, efficient and effective services.

Supporting the development and delivery of service strategy, together with ensuring appropriate risk management processes are in place to deliver a safe, high quality, patient centred service.

Providing solutions and/or advice to staff in response to pressures that may affect throughput.

Supporting the GM with the responsibility for the delivery of key performance targets in line with local and national agreements.

Providing operational leadership and deputising for the GM as required.

Exercising delegated responsibility on behalf of the GM to resolve day-to-day management issues within their area.

The Successful individual will be required to work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

This is a 12 months Fixed Term Post

Main duties of the job

Highly visible individual; key in ensuring standards of care for all patients and the safe, effective and efficient utilisation of resources. Building strong and cohesive working relationships with the Clinical Leads and Matrons for areas of responsibility. Line management responsibility for a range of administration staff. Responsibility for the operational delivery aspects of delegated divisional areas. Supporting the GM, Clinical Leads and Matron in formulating strategic direction of services. Accountable for service delivery and the associated operational issues. Deputise for the GM.

Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience Essential

Substantial senior management experience. Experience of managing access targets. Experience of managing a range of services within an acute healthcare setting. Experience of successful business planning and service development. Knowledge of the political environment within which the NHS operates and is conversant with relevant national policy. Practical and theoretical knowledge of: 1. Financial Management 2. HR Management 3. Performance Management (including RTT) 4.Project Management

Desirable

Proven track record of successful and sustained management in an NHS Foundation Trust or similar organisation Involvement in NHS service development and reconfiguration.

Qualifications & Training Essential

Education to degree level or equivalent qualification and or experience. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences, including chairing of meetings. Able to clarify key points from diverse and complex sets of information Able to move easily between the detail and the big picture on issues in understanding and explaining the complexity of challenges and possible solutions.

Desirable

Masters level degree in a management related discipline. Delivers clear presentations to diverse audiences.

Personal Attributes & Skills Essential

Coaches others, challenging and asking questions to help them work out answers for themselves. Able to build rapport and credibility with senior clinical and managerial teams in the delivery of performance targets, service delivery and change programmes Ability to constantly motivate self and others Handling sensitive situations Problem solving with high complexity Personal resilience and confidence
