Job summary
Northamptonshire Integrated Sexual Health and HIV (NISHH) Service, requires an Outreach Support Worker to join our friendly and dynamic team to provide and maintain high standards of patient care. The Sexual Health Outreach Team plays a vital role in the education, support and safer sex promotion around sexual health and basic contraception to young people, vulnerable and/or at-risk groups across Northamptonshire.
The post-holder is responsible for providing information, education, STI and pregnancy testing in the community, alongside clinical colleagues in sexual health clinics and key community partner agencies across North Northamptonshire.
The successful candidate will provide education tackling a range of safer sex topics using sensitive information, which requires an enthusiastic and strong communicator with the ability to be both non-judgmental and discreet.
Main duties of the job
This role has a strong emphasis on peer support, so we are looking for someone who has either had personal experience of using sexual health services and/or can confidently facilitate peer-supporter opportunities, for example students supporting each other with sexual health issues.
A key focus of this role is promoting and delivering both the Chlamydia Screening Programme (CSP) and C-Card Service, as well training partners to expand service access.
A working day will be varied, so the post-holder will need to demonstrate flexibility as they may be presenting a school assembly one day and be holding a drop-in for vulnerable adults the next.

The new post-holder will join a small, but well-established and pro-active Sexual Health Outreach Team. This county-wide team works with both young people and vulnerable groups of any age, promoting safer sex and basic contraception in a variety of ways. No two days are the same and staff are expected to comfortably lone-work, mangage a varied timetable whilst building on established partnerships. Enthusiasm, energy and creative work are encouraged.

Job description Job responsibilities
o Proactive engagement with young people, vulnerable and/or at-risk groups.
o Creating sustainable peer-support opportunities.
o Building and sustaining good links with key statutory and community partner agencies.
o Providing information and education covering safer sex and basic contraception through sex education talks, staff training sessions, drop-ins, 1:1 support, events and online promotion and health campaigns.
o Enable wider access to sexual health services through support, guidance, signposting and referral.
o Promotion & delivery of the CSP and C-Card Services involving provision of condoms, STI testing and pregnancy testing.
o Maintain confidential and accurate record keeping, assisting in service monitoring and evaluation.
o Administrative duties, including dealing with STI postal kit and condom orders and stock management.
o Commitment to personal support, mandatory training and on-going development, across all aspects of sexual health, basic contraception and target audiences.
o Participate in regular team meetings and supervision with team lead.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience Essential
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent or NVQ level 3 Fluent in written and spoken English Able and willing to travel to various locations across the county, with daily access to a car is essential. Experience of supporting young people Experience of supporting vulnerable or at-risk adults Experience of creating sustainable peer-support opportunities Experience of working in a community setting Knowledge of sexual health services Experience of health promotion. Experience of teaching small and large groups.
