Job summary
Senior Peer Support Worker (BAND 4). GMMH Psychosis Research Unit has funding to appoint up to 0.8 WTE peer support worker (PSW) for the Let's Talk 2 Trial. The post will be for a fixed term of 9 months in the first instance with expectation to extend to 12 months fixed term. The Let's Talk PSWs will be responsible for delivering the peer-delivered intervention. The Let's talk intervention is a semi-structured approach to supporting people with psychosis who are experiencing internalised stigma and who report concerns about talking about their psychosis experiences or concealing their experiences because of stigma. It is an approach underpinned by the principles of Peer Support.
You will have lived experience of psychosis and experience of working in a relevant PSW role. You will be able to work in an independent and autonomous fashion handling a diverse caseload. You will uphold peer values of supporting and promoting recovery as a user led concept, emphasise hope and optimism, value learning through lived experience and focus on strengths rather than deficits. Supervision and support are provided by Dr Samantha Bowe, Dr Melissa Pyle the Let's Talk 2 Chief Investigator, and a Peer Specialist. As the post will involve extensive travel within the Greater Manchester area, the ability to travel independently of the public transport system is important. The post is based at Central Park (M40).

There is an expectation that the Senior peer support worker will be a key contributor in the on-going development of peer support worker roles at the Trust including such things as training programmes and evaluations.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications Essential
Recognised competency-based qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. NVQ, B-TEC QCF, Apprenticeship), or equivalent demonstrable experience

Willingness to undertake further training in line with the development of the SPSW role
Experience Essential
Lived experience of psychosis and having received mental health services Evidence of pro social behaviour (e.g empathy, actions that benefit others) Experience of working in a relevant peer support role.
