This post to cover maternity leave presents an exciting learning opportunity to work within our friendly, welcoming team to increase knowledge and understanding of patients diagnosed with bowel cancer; the pathways of treatment and caring for not only the patient, but their family and friends.
This post gives a valuable insight into the role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist.
We are looking for skilled nurse with an understanding of caring for patients with colorectal cancer, who is enthusiastic, motivated, proactive and autonomous in their practice. We are committed to providing a highquality service and a supportive educational environment conducive to learning, which will ensure a good foundation for future practice.
The successful candidate will be fully supported by the Senior Colorectal Nurses. You will be involved in multi-varied caseloads, working independently and as part of a specialised team, nurse led initiatives, promotion of best practice, self- care and empowerment for patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
To act as a key worker; delivering evidence based, personalised care through holistic assessment, care planning and evaluation of care through the running of nurse-led clinics for patients from diagnosis, through treatment and follow up. This might be via a clinic, inpatient or remote follow up setting. To work at an enhanced level to plan and provide clinical care and psychological support to patients with a cancer diagnosis who have complex needs.

Qualifications Essential
Relevant teaching Qualification State registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Demonstrates evidence of ongoing professional development Diploma/Degree in relevant area or evidence of study to that level
Desirable
Post registration training preferably in cancer/palliative care. Advanced Communication skills training
Skills and experience Essential
Experience working with colorectal patients Experience in CNS role Evidence of relevant clinical experience at Band 5 preferably in an Oncology Thorough up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice particularly within the speciality area Working knowledge of primary care, team nursing and reflective practice Leadership management experience
