About this role

Job summary

Are you an experienced HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist with a passion for Point of Care Testing (POCT), quality improvement, and service development? We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking POCT Coordinator to lead our Trust-wide POCT service.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pathology leadership team and take responsibility for the operational management, governance, quality assurance, and strategic development of POCT across the Trust. Working closely with clinical teams, service managers, the quality team, and senior Pathology colleagues, you will ensure the safe, effective, and compliant use of POCT technologies to support high-quality patient care.

As a senior member of the Pathology team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of POCT services across the Trust. A key focus of the role will be supporting the Trust's journey towards POCT accreditation through the development of robust quality systems, governance processes, and best practice standards.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Biomedical Scientist or POCT professional to make a significant contribution to service quality, patient safety, and the future development of diagnostic testing.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide specialist leadership and expertise for the Trust's POCT service, supporting the implementation, governance, and ongoing development of POCT across a range of clinical settings. Key responsibilities include:

Leading and coordinating the operational management of the POCT service across the Trust. Managing staff within the POCT team. Supporting the department's objective to achieve UKAS POCT accreditation through quality improvement, audit, governance, and compliance activities. Supporting the evaluation and implementation of new POCT technologies and wider service development initiatives. Managing POCT training, competency assessment, and user support programmes. Providing expert advice to key stakeholders on all aspects of POCT. Representing the Trust within regional POCT networks.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training Essential

Educated to Masters or FIBMS level or have relevant experience to the same level. HCPC registered.

Desirable

Management qualification. POCT qualification.

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Extensive experience as a Specialist working in a clinical laboratory Experience of POCT devices Experience of analytical equipment installation, validation and verification

Desirable

Have experience in managing POCT across a Trust or over a number of laboratory departments Some experience in a management/supervisory position within a laboratory discipline

Specific Skills Essential

Good organisational skills. Leadership and motivational skills in order to influence, negotiate and empathise with service users.

Desirable

Proven skills as a senior manager in a large organisation.
