Job Summary and Purpose This position provides leadership in the development and implementation of special education services. Specifically, this position trains, observes, and coaches teachers of students with all grade levels and plays a vital role coordinating special education services within a designated cluster of schools.

Work Objectives/Essential Functions

• Program Coordination: Develop, implement, and monitor special education programs tailored to the needs of students within the designated cluster of schools.

• Teacher Support and Training: Provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities for teachers and support staff to enhance their ability to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

• Student Assessment: Collaborate with school staff to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and monitor student progress to ensure that appropriate interventions and accommodations are provided.

• Collaboration and Communication: Foster effective communication and collaboration among teachers, administrators, parents, and external agencies involved in supporting students with special needs.

• Resource Allocation: Assist in the allocation of resources, including personnel, materials, and technology, to support the effective delivery of special education services.

• Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing special education services, and maintain accurate documentation related to student progress, interventions, and services provided.

• Crisis Intervention: Provide support and guidance in managing crisis situations involving students with special needs, including behavior management strategies and coordination with appropriate support services.

• Professional Development: Stay informed about current research, best practices, and developments in the field of special education, and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff members.

• Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and needs of students with disabilities within the educational system and community and promote inclusive practices that support the full participation and success of all students.

Education and Experience Education Attainment (Required): Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related field

Education Attainment (Preferred):

Relevant Experience (Required): Four (4) years of experience working with students with disabilities.

Relevant Experience (Preferred):

Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required): Hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia Teaching License. Licensure/certification in Special Education

• Demonstrate effective positive behavioral supports and practices.

• Assess individual staff and student needs and performance.

• Address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes.

• Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals.

• Organize and perform work independently.

• Meet deadlines for all work even when working on multiple projects.

• Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in quality and quantity of work.
