To assist within the speciality service of ENT to include paediatrics

To enhance services within the ENT Service.

To assist in team building across all Directorate services and teams.

This vacancy will be on the Resident Doctor payscale; the pay ceiling for this post is £64,170 per annum.

Main duties of the job

This post builds on an established programme since 2016 of undergraduate medical education, delivering a clinical ENT weekly teaching module within the C21 year 3 'Surgery & Oncology' block in the Princess of Wales Hospital (PoWH), as well as ENT lectures and clinical demonstrations to Foundation Trainees and allied healthcare professionals in the MPEC (Multi Professional Educational Centre) and across PoWH.

The post holder will work closely with PoWH ENT trainee and consultant colleagues, planning and delivering the week-long ENT Programme clinical module (aligned to the C21 and ENTUK SFO core curriculums) to Year 3 students in rotation during their 8 weeks PoWH placement (x4 blocks per annum), mostly utilising small group (2 or 3 students) teaching with an enhanced system for student feedback and support. The medical school are also committed to the development and expansion of e-learning and facilities so the post holder will be expected to provide and demonstrate a range of clinical materials in order to enhance the taught core ENT module.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop and expand the teaching of clinical ENT in PoWH to Cardiff undergraduate medical students, under the supervision of Mr Steven Backhouse and the other PoWH ENT Consultants.

Job description Job responsibilities

Acting as tutor / mentor for Cardiff Year 3 students during their ENT teaching 1-week course (included in the C21 programme within the Surgery & Oncology block).

Delivering and development of teaching clinics to run alongside general and specialist ENT clinics and theatre lists.

Facilitating and conducting ENT tutorials during the C21 Surgery & Oncology module

Clinical demonstrations.

Demonstrating and teaching clinical skills during the ENT module

Chairing student case presentations

Bed-side teaching of small groups of students

Development of e-learning programmes for undergraduate students

They would also attend the PoWH ENT ward rounds, theatre sessions and on-call activities, as well as Grand Rounds and other educational opportunities.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to training on communication skills, professionalism tutorials, tutor roles and ad-hoc ENT teaching of students, trainees and allied healthcare professionals.

The successful candidate will be proposed to Cardiff University Medical School for a Clinical Tutor honorary title.
