About this role

Job summary

Do you have at least 2 years of experience as a phlebotomist? Have you previously managed a team in a busy department?

We have an exciting opportunity available for you to join our friendly team of 40 Phlebotomists!

We're currently offering a position of up to 37.5 hours per week, working in York Hospital and our community clinics at LNER Stadium, Vanguard Centre, Askham Bar, Selby War Memorial, Malton, Tadcaster Medical Centre, and Sherburn Medical Centre. We're on the lookout for enthusiastic and motivated team player with excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

If you're passionate about providing high-quality, timely, and effective phlebotomy services to patients, and clinical colleagues we'd love to hear from you! Flexibility is key, as you will need to be able to work across all our service locations and hours on a rotating basis.

Main duties of the job

The main duties for this role include but are not limited to:

Providing support and reassurance to patients when preparing them forvenepuncture/Cannulation, including patients with learning disabilities or languagedifficulties. Demonstrating a courteous, sympathetic, compassionate and helpful approach to patients, relatives and visitors at all times. Act as a positive role model for all Trust employees. Demonstrating a positive professional working relationship with colleagues and other members of the Trust by promoting open communication, trust and respect. Training and Induction of new staff, including assessing and declaring competency to practicefor new staff, as directed by the Phlebotomy Manager. To ensure efficient planning and prioritisation of individual workload and workload ofsubordinate phlebotomy staff. To work without direct supervision and within defined limits by following departmental and Trust protocols (including Standard Operating Procedures. To provide advice and assistance to basic grade phlebotomists as required. To have responsibility for assessing the suitability of veins for venepuncture, and performingvenepuncture by selecting most appropriate site. Taking venepuncture and cannulation samples.

Education, Qualifications and Training Essential

Skills and Experience Essential

Good communication at all levels both verbally and in writing and in a responsive and professional manner. Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff. Experience of working face to face with the general public including the handling of complaints.
