Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and self-motivated Paediatric Senior Audiology Assistant to join the Community Paediatric Audiology Assessment Service.
We are a small, busy team of community-based paediatric audiologists and senior audiology assistants providing diagnostic paediatric hearing assessments at satellite clinics across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated individual to support the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic assessment service for children and young people aged 6 months to 19 years.
Applicants must have excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise demanding workloads and work effectively as part of a flexible team. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work sensitively with children and families while remaining calm and methodical under pressure.
Please note: As the role requires travel to a variety of healthcare settings across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, post holders must be willing to travel to all service delivery sites and hold a full UK driving licence with access to a car during working hours.
This service provides paediatric assessments only for children and young people aged 7 months to 19 years.
There is no rehabilitation element to this role.

Main duties of the job
Main duties and responsibilities
The principle role of this post within the Paediatric Audiology Service is to assist and support qualified paediatric audiologists in the provision and delivery of behavioural and objective diagnostic assessment of babies and young children.
Supporting children and families to engage in the assessment process, including management of children with complex needs and/or challenging behaviour during testing
To independently consider and deliver specific distraction and play activities, based on an individual childs level of engagement and cognitive ability, in order to manage and maintain their interest and optimal attention levels throughout the testing process.
To take a joint responsibility with the paediatric audiologist in analysing and evaluating the reliability of a childs responses to sounds during behavioural testing
To independently condition a child, through play activities, to enable reliable and secure responses to be gained and accurate audiological threshold information to be established
To be responsible for the accurate placement of headphones, transducers or inserts used during testing and to ensure this is maintained during the testing process
where required, the postholder will undertake autonomous delivery of targeted hearing screening checks, accurately recording and interpreting results and completing a referral into an appropriate diagnostic clinic, following agreed criteria
