About this role

Job summary

You are the first point of contact in a busy ED reception area at Heartlands Hospital.

You are responsible for booking in patients and ambulances on to the PAS system, taking calls and messages, booking fracture clinic appointments and scanning documents in a timely manner.

We currently have 1 post available

30 hours - 4 days a week

The shift pattern is

Earlies - 07:00am - 15:00pm

Lates - 15:00pm - 23:00pm

Nights - 23:00pm - 07:00am

This also includes weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

Register new patients

Book patients in

Book Ambulances in

Answer telephone

Admissions onto PICS

Scanning documents

Printing labels and wristbands

Deal with general queries

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

*Good level of Education *GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths or equivalent or equivalent work experience

Experience Essential

*Substantive experience in a customer care environment

Desirable

*Previous NHS employment *Reception experience

*Communicate sensitively and effectively *Excellent face to face verbal communication skills *Demonstrate negotiating skills both with patient/visitors or colleagues of all levels *Excellent telephone skills/manner *Ability to remain impartial and maintain confidentiality *Methodical and accurate *Team working and working on own initiative *Good working knowledge of computerised systems *Good general keyboards Skills *Ability to manage workload *Ability to work in a pressurised and busy environment *Punctual and Reliable *Ability to remain calm whilst maintaining a courteous, caring, professional attitude when dealing with people in an emergency situation *Ability to act on behalf of patients/visitors in the care of the waiting room in the event of a medical or security incident escalating the issue to Senior Nurse Co-ordinator, Security and/or Police
