Main duties of the job
What you'll be doing
As a Bank Band 6 Speech & Language Therapist, you will:
Assess, manage and deliver interventions for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. Provide universal, targeted and specialist support across a range of settings. Work collaboratively with families, schools, education staff and multidisciplinary colleagues. Support children and young people to develop their communication, independence and participation. We provide community health services across Lambeth and Southwark, bringing specialist care closer to children, young people and families.
Our Speech & Language Therapy teams are based at the Mary Sheridan Centre and Sunshine House Children's and Young People's Development Centre, delivering services in community clinics, schools, nurseries, children's centres, family hubs, child development centres and family homes.

Professional/Statutory Registration Essential
Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
Qualifications and Education Essential
Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent Willingness to undertake post qualification study Continued Professional Development Portfolio including evidence of reflective practice, in-service training, courses attended and experience gained Completion of RCSLT newly qualified practitioner competences

A British sign language qualification Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
Previous Experience Essential
Experience of working as a Speech and Language Therapist with a paediatric caseload. Independently manages own time and prioritise tasks including caseload management Works closely with team members and external partners to review client care and make recommendations for improvements

Experience in contributing to policy planning and service development Knowledge of early intervention research Experience in universal and targeted service delivery
Skills/Knowledge/Ability Essential
Specialist knowledge of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to client groups and settings and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits underpinned by evidence based practice Knowledge of EYFS and National Curriculum, - understanding of curriculum differentiation and environmental adaptations. A working knowledge of relevant procedures and legal frameworks and to demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge to clinical practice, including: Safeguarding Children, Code of Practice, Information Governance and other legal frameworks Knowledge of national and local professional and clinical guidelines Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance, including reflective practice, audit and research methodologies Knowledge of methods of involving users in improving client care Knowledge of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working with key professionals in health, education, voluntary and social services Knowledge and experience of clinical supervision and the ability to engage with others in reflective practice Skilled in differential diagnoses on the basis of evidence from assessment seeking advice as appropriate Ability to use knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements and decision-making for complex cases Ability to engage and negotiate with carers, clients and others around individual case management Ability to use ICT for clinical and administrative tasks Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal Specialist clinical/technical skills for interpretative assessment techniques and interventions Hand-eye co-ordination, dexterity, manipulation and keyboard accuracy Able to adapt to new systems and flexible working patterns
