An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our growing Lung Cancer Screening Programme at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a highly organised, motivated and compassionate individual to support the delivery of this life-saving service.

The National Lung Cancer Screening Programme is a key NHS initiative designed to identify lung cancer at an earlier stage, giving patients the best possible chance of successful treatment and improved outcomes. As the programme continues to expand, this role offers the opportunity to make a real difference to patients and help shape a developing service.

As Lung Cancer Screening Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in supporting patients throughout their screening journey, acting as a key point of contact and ensuring they receive a seamless, high-quality experience. Working closely with the Lung Cancer Screening Team, Respiratory Consultants, Cancer Services, MDT Coordinators and Diagnostic Services, you will coordinate patient pathways, track progress through screening and diagnostic processes, and support multidisciplinary team discussions.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for someone who:o Has substantial administrative and organisational experience within a healthcare or complex service environment.o Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.o Is confident working independently, managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.o Has strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.o Has experience organising meetings, maintaining accurate records and supporting service delivery.o Understands the importance of patient-centred care and can communicate sensitively with individuals who may be anxious or distressed.o Is proactive, enthusiastic and committed to continuous improvement.Experience of working within cancer services, patient pathways or NHS administration would be advantageous but is not essential.

Job description Job responsibilities

The Lung Cancer Screening Programme is designed to enable early detection of lung cancer, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. With approval from the National Screening Committee, the programme is set to be implemented nationwide by 2028/2029.

The programme targets individuals ages 55-74 with a history of smoking who are registered with participating GP practices. Patients are assessed for lung cancer risk through telephone screening using an accredited risk assessment tool. Advanced systems are employed to identify high-risk individuals, who are then scheduled for low-dose CT scans, enabling early detection and better treatment options.

Qualifications Essential

Educated to Degree level or demonstrable equivalent level of appropriate qualifications or work experience Extensive and demonstrable working knowledge and experience of administrative systems, software programmes to include Microsoft applications (word, excel, access, email).
