Demonstrates competent language skills. 3. Has demonstrated ability to work with children in an organized setting. 4. Participates in program training as specified by the Kentucky Department of Education and local district. 5. Has met the requirements of a criminal records check as specified by Kentucky State Law. 6. Has met health requirements as specified in district personnel policy. REPORTS TO: Principal or his/her designee. JOB GOAL: To help establish and maintain a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria so that students may find mealtime a time to relax after the tasks of the morning and to refresh themselves for the tasks of the afternoon; to maintain cleanliness of food service facilities. 1.0 GENERAL KNOWLEDGE BASE Knowledge Of: 1.1 Basic food service operations. 1.2 Proper student conduct and discipline. 1.3 Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. 1.4 Health and safety regulations. 2.0 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Ability To: 2.1 Supervise students and assure proper conduct in the lunchroom. 2.2 Maintain cleanliness of food service facilities. 2.3 Learn District policies and procedures related to assigned activities. 2.4 Work cooperatively with others. 2.5 Arrange furniture. 3.0 Performance Responsibilities 3.1 Organizes students into orderly lines for purchasing food, and sees that they go to assigned tables. 3.2 Helps students develop and observe proper dining habits, both in terms of etiquette and nutrition. 3.3 Assists younger students with use of utensils when needed. 3.4 Organizes students for orderly disposal of food waste, trays, and utensils. 3.5 Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the lunchroom. 3.6 Circulates among the tables during the meal period so as to be available to help children who need help and to resolve any minor problems that arise. 3.7 Informs an attending teacher an/or principal at once of any serious infraction of disciplinary rules by students. 3.8 Calls immediately for an attending teacher and/or principal in the event of any argument involving more than two students; any incident involving physical confrontation; and any incident that appears to be of more than momentary disruption. 3.9 Maintains confidentiality of records and all information concerning students and classroom activities; refers all questions to teacher or principal. 3.10 Participates in appropriate in-service training. 3.11 Assists certified persons in implementing all policies and regulations governing student conduct for the classroom and related school activities. 3.12 Acts in accordance with the policies as set forth by the Ohio County Board of Education, KRS, KAR, and applicable Federal laws and regulations. 3.13 Performs other duties that may not be specifically covered in this general job description as assigned by the supervising teacher and/or principal. 3.14 Demonstrates loyalty, dedication, and a positive attitude toward the mission and goals of Ohio County Schools. 3.15 Dresses appropriately for the job and is neat and well-groomed. 3.16 Exhibits good physical health required to perform tasks. 3.17 Accepts constructive criticism willingly. 3.18 Is punctual and prepare for immediate assumption of duties upon arrival at school. 3.19 Utilizes time appropriately and maintains good attendance. 3.20 Is familiar with fire and tornado exit procedures and crisis management; and assists with implementation as required. CUSTODIAN QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school diploma or GED Certificate 2. Previous experience as a custodian is desired, though not essential. 3. Has met health requirements as specified in district personnel policy. REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: Responsible for the proper and timely completion of all assigned cleaning, ground care, setup and moving, and painting tasks in accordance with established procedures. 1.0 GENERAL KNOWLEDGE BASE Knowledge Of: 1.1 Basic methods, materials, tools and equipment used in custodial work and routine maintenance. 1.2 Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies. 1.3 Proper lifting techniques. 2.0 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Ability To: 2.1 Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or facility to maintain buildings, locker rooms and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition. 2.2 Use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to pre-determined standards. 2.3 Learn and apply knowledge of the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work. 2.4 Learn appropriate safety precautions and procedures. 2.5 Maintain tools and equipment signed in clean working order and provide proper security. 2.6 Perform minor non-technical repairs. 2.7 Observe and report need for maintenance and repair. 2.8 Perform heavy physical labor. 2.9 Understand and follow oral and written directions. 2.10 Meet schedules and time lines. 2.11 Communicate effectively with others. 2.12 Inspect and assure the security of facilities during assigned shift. 2.13 Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 2.14 Walk, bend, lift, push, and stand for extended periods of time. 2.15 Walk extensively. 2.16 Climb stairs. 2.17 Walk in stooped position over a long period of time. 2.18 Work outside under adverse conditions without any ill effects. 2.19 Work inside building after heating/cooling is turned off. 2.20 Work weekend shift, holidays, and provide "on-call" coverage. 3.0 Performance Responsibilities 3.1 Must practice safety precautions and be safety conscious at all times. 3.2 Reports to immediate supervisor any items requiring maintenance and an unusual or unsafe condition. 3.3 Performs cleaning and sanitation tasks in assigned areas in accordance with established procedures. These tasks include, But are not limited to: disinfecting and cleaning restroom fixtures; dusting furniture, window sills and ledges; spot cleaning walls; doors and glass; collecting and removing trash from buildings; emptying ashtrays; vacuuming carpeted areas; dust mopping; wet mopping; spray buffing resilient tile floors; shampooing carpets; stripping and refinishing wood, composition and resilient tile floors; sweeping and mopping concrete and hard surface floors; sweeping and mopping stairs; re-supplying paper and soap dispensers; polishing furniture; replacing burnt out lamps; and other cleaning-related tasks as far as interior work is concerned. 3.4 Operates and maintains powered cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbing machines, other automatic scrubbers, wet/dry vacuums, carpet vacuums, carpet shampooers, pile brush vacuums, and pressure washers. 3.5 Uses and maintains non-powered cleaning equipment such as mops, brooms, cleaning cloths, spray bottles, brushes and custodial carts. 3.6 Performs grounds care tasks in assigned areas in accordance with established procedures. These tasks include, but are not limited to, mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, watering, fertilizing, reseeding, applying fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and sterilants. In addition, performs regular policing tasks such as picking up trash, emptying trash containers, sweeping sidewalks, parking areas, and roadways; cleaning storm drains, catch basins, swales, and unclogging drains if they should become obstructed with trash and debris. 3.7 Operates and maintains powered grounds care equipment such as mowers, edgers, trimmers, vacuum machines, blowers, sprayers, spreaders, and saws. 3.8 Provides manual labor for a variety of tasks as directed by immediate supervisor. Manual labor tasks include, but are not limited to: moving furniture and equipment; setting up tables, chairs, exhibits and displays; loading and unloading trucks, etc. 3.9 Uses and maintains non-powered grounds care equipment such as shovels, axes, slings, hoes, wheelbarrows, saws, trimmers hedge trimmers, trash pickup stick, trash sack or trash container. 3.10 Moves office and school furniture and equipment as required to perform assigned cleaning and grounds care work tasks. 3.11 Participates in off-shift, weekend, holiday, and "on-call" coverage. 3.12 Demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Ohio County Schools. 3.13 Performs other duties as directed by immediate supervisor.
