Momence Community Unit School District 1 High School Physical Science Teacher Job Description

Purpose: Momence CUSD #1 is seeking a high school physical science teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in physical science while creating a safe, engaging, and student-centered learning environment. The teacher develops rigorous lessons aligned with Illinois Learning Standards and district curriculum, promotes scientific inquiry and critical thinking, and prepares students for success in future science coursework, college, careers, and everyday problem-solving.

Qualifications:

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement(s) or eligibility for licensure.

• Preferred endorsements in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or Earth and Space Science.

• Ability to build positive professional relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners.

• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

• Commitment to creating engaging, authentic, project-based learning experiences.

Reports to: Building Administration

Essential Job Functions:

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in Physical Science that align with state standards and district curriculum.

• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

• Integrate inquiry-based learning, laboratory investigations, and hands-on activities into daily instruction.

• Differentiate instruction to support students with varying abilities, learning styles, and accommodations.

• Incorporate technology and digital resources to enhance student learning.

• Foster scientific reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

• Maintain safe classroom, laboratory, and/or shop environments in accordance with applicable safety standards.

• Employ a variety of instructional strategies, instructional media, and performance assessments that support student learning.

• Assist in evaluating and improving curriculum and programming to ensure alignment with student needs and workforce trends.

• Create a positive classroom culture where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

• Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community partners.

• Maintain accurate records and complete required reports in a timely manner.

• Participate in student support meetings, professional learning communities, and district initiatives.

• Maintain instructional materials, equipment inventories, and supply requests necessary to support student learning.

• Meet professional responsibilities through effective planning, organization, collaboration, and timely completion of assigned duties.

• Follow all district policies and the District's teacher job description.

• Perform other duties as assigned by district and/or building administration.

Terms of Employment: As determined by the MEA Collective Bargaining Agreement Salary determined based on MEA Collective Bargaining Agreement ($42,020 - $84,739)
