Middle School Head Cross Country Coach Position Title: Middle School Head Cross Country Coach Location: Naco Elementary School District #23, Naco, Arizona Reports To:Superintendent/Principal Position Type: Seasonal Stipend Position Position Summary Naco Elementary School District is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and student-centered individual to serve as the Middle School Head Cross Country Coach. The head coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising all aspects of the middle school cross country program. The coach will foster a positive team culture while developing student-athletes' endurance, sportsmanship, leadership, and commitment to academic success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan, organize, and conduct all team practices and competitions.
• Teach proper running techniques, conditioning, race strategies, and injury prevention.
• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and respect among student-athletes.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, travel, and other team activities.
• Coordinate meet schedules, transportation needs, and communication with the Athletic Director.
• Maintain and inventory team equipment and uniforms.
• Ensure compliance with district policies, conference rules, and Arizona interscholastic athletic regulations.
• Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and encourage academic success.
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school staff, officials, and administration.
• Promote a safe environment by following appropriate health and safety procedures.
• Attend coaches' meetings, professional development, and required district training.
• Perform other duties related to the athletic program as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous coaching experience or competitive experience in cross country, track and field, or distance running is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with middle school students.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends during the athletic season.
Required Certifications
• Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (or ability to obtain one).
• Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the season begins).
• Completion of all district-required coaching certifications and safety training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of cross country training principles, race rules, conditioning, and injury prevention.
• Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes while building confidence and resilience.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and the community.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity, sportsmanship, and professionalism.
Working Conditions
• Outdoor practices and competitions in varying weather conditions.
• Evening practices and athletic events during the season.
• Occasional weekend competitions and travel.
• Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate athletic skills for extended periods.
Compensation Seasonal coaching stipend in accordance with the Naco Elementary School District Governing Board-approved stipend schedule.
