ESCANABA AREA PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT – BOARD OF EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION Exact Position Title: SCHOOL BUS DRIVER Division of: Auxiliary - Division IV - Teamsters Title of Immediate Superior: Director of Operations Contract Period: School Year 07/27/2026 I General Description: Driver must meet legal qualifications to drive and possess personal qualities to most effectively operate a school bus. Driver must meet school bus driver certification requirements, state requirements for appropriate licensing and state physical examination requirements. II Specific Duties include:
• Operate the bus in a safe and efficient manner
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip checks on the bus and its special equipment
• Establish favorable working relationships with other drivers, maintenance personnel, teachers, students, principals and total school staff
• Maintain discipline among passengers
• Meet emergency situations in accordance with standing operating procedures
• Communicate effectively with school staff
• Exhibit positive image as loyal representative of school district
• Complete required reports in prescribed manner
• Satisfactorily complete required training programs
• Drive with safety of riders as first priority
• Maintain personal fitness – emotional stability and physical capacity
• Participate in taking extra trips according to the established procedure
• Observe all procedures contained in State guidelines and the bus driver's manual
III Miscellaneous:
• May be required to drive his/her personal vehicle and provide their own transportation within the district as well as to job-related functions outside the district.
• May come in contact with blood-borne pathogens in the course of fulfilling the responsibilities of this position.
• The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the district.
• Is responsible for any and all other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor/Superintendent.
