JOB SUMMARY This position creates and maintains a safe, positive learning environment working as a certificated substitute teacher in the Northshore School District. A certificated substitute teacher must hold a current Washington State teaching or substitute certificate, which gives the individual the ability to substitute in classrooms K-12. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.

• Works on an on-call basis often times with short notice as a certificated substitute for the regular classroom teacher.

• Fosters and manages a safe, positive learning environment for all students

• Supervises student behavior and enforces rules and regulations of the school and District.

• Maintains appropriate student discipline consistent with District policies and procedures.

• Implements lesson plans following directions left by the classroom teacher.

• Motivates and engages students in learning.

• Adjusts instruction and modifies lesson plans based on student needs.

• Maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, district staff, and the community.

• Uses software and equipment for educational uses and in accordance with District policies.

• Adheres to the Code of Professional Conduct, District policies and procedures, and State/Federal laws and regulations.

• Performs related duties consistent with the job description and employee assignment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP Reports to the Building Administrator. SALARY 2026-27 Substitute Pay Rates are pending; 2025-26 Substitute Pay Rates Substitutes hired for twenty (20) consecutive days or longer will be placed on a non-continuing contract and paid according to their placement on the Teachers' Salary Schedule. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Bachelor's degree required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of developmental needs of students within assigned age range; knowledge of subject matter content and pedagogy; demonstrates organizational skills; skill in conflict resolution; ability to follow written directions; ability to communicate effectively with students and adults; ability to maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; ability to adapt to changes quickly; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to effectively use classroom technology; ability to learn new policies and procedures quickly. BENEFITS Substitutes become benefit eligible after subbing for 630 hours during the school year. Your coverage would go from the first of the month after reaching the 630 hours though 8/31.
