Storm Lake Middle School Athletic Coach Job Description Position Title: Middle School Athletic Coach Reports To: Athletic Director Position Summary The High School Athletic Coach plans, organizes, and supervises a high school interscholastic athletic program that supports student-athlete development, safety, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success. The coach serves as a positive role model and complies with all district, conference, and Iowa licensure requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Plan and conduct effective practices and competitions. • Teach sport-specific skills, strategies, and rules. • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and respect. • Ensure the safety and supervision of student-athletes at all times. • Enforce school and district policies and athletic codes of conduct. • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, and school staff. • Support academic expectations and eligibility requirements. • Maintain equipment and facilities. • Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development. • Follow all district, conference, and state athletic association rules. Required Licensure All coaches (paid or volunteer) must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Coaching Endorsement through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BoEE). Minimum requirements include:
• At least 18 years of age and a high school diploma or equivalent • CPR certification • NFHS concussion training • Mandatory reporter training • Completion of an approved 55-hour coaching course (or equivalent coursework) Authorization must remain current and in good standing. Qualifications
• Knowledge of the sport and coaching techniques • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills • Ability to work positively with high school students • Coaching experience preferred, but not required • Commitment to student safety and well-being Physical & Work Requirements
• Ability to demonstrate skills and actively supervise students • Ability to lift and manage athletic equipment • Evening, weekend, and outdoor work required
