About this role

Job summary

Two Rivers Medical Centre is looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice, to support our nursing team. This role is offered on a part-time basis, for 12 hours a week, worked Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, and is on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Main duties of the job

Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols to assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care; Collecting samples of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring correct storage, labelling, recording and efficient dispatching of samples; Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample; Checking patient identification against GP or nurse request, and confirming with the patient whenever possible; Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff; Notifying the GP of any significant patient issues; Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

Person Specification

If you are an experienced phlebotomist looking for a new challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and qualifications: Essential

Minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification or experience; Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture; Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care; Ability to record accurate clinical notes; Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues; Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient; Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required; Flexibility and an adaptable approach; Commitment to ongoing professional development.
