General Practice Assistant (GPA)
Are you a motivated and enthusiastic healthcare professional looking to develop your skills and make a real difference in primary care? MMWF Primary Care Network is looking for a dedicated General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across our network of GP practices, supporting GPs and the wider clinical team with a combination of clinical and administrative duties. You will play an important role in improving patient care, supporting the smooth running of general practice and helping clinicians manage their workload effectively.
You will be supported by an experienced and collaborative team, with opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills within a dynamic primary care environment. Main duties of the job 1. Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
2. Completing simple clinical observations /investigations as directed locally, such as dipstick urine, taking blood pressure, ECG, phlebotomy.
3.Supporting the GP with immunisations/wound care. Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
4. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
5. Explaining treatment procedures to patients. helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
6. Sorting clinical post and prioritising for the GP. Signposting some post to other members of staff and extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding, adding this to patient notes.
7. Supporting with QOF reviews.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
GCSE Grade A to C in English and Maths Willing to work towards a GP Assistant Certification qualification. Experience in working within a Primary or Secondary Care settings. Previous experience using the systmone clinical system Experience in phlebotomy Previous experience working within a healthcare or clinical environment Excellent communication skills with a patient and professional manner Ability to use initiative, sound judgement, and resourcefulness Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask effectively Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good understanding of data protection, GDPR, and patient confidentiality.
Desirable
Full Driving Licence Knowledge of medical terminology and SNOMED coding
