About this role

Job summary

The associate named midwife willsupport the named midwifein providingassurancethat The Trustismeetingits statutory obligation to safeguard and promote the welfare of allunbornbabies, infants andchildrenand their familieswho access services within the Trust.

The post holder willplaya key role in supporting he named midwife to drive forward recommendations,actionsand learning form internal and external reviews relevant to maternity and neonatal services.

The post holder will support the named midwife and the wider safeguarding children team in developinganddelivering affective training and supporting delivery of service improvements.

Through fosteringclose relationships with colleagues in maternity and neo-natal unity,and being a visible source of support and advice, the associate named midwife will raise awareness of the safeguarding agenda,promoting safeguarding as a core service within the Trust and communicating the message that safeguarding is "Everyone's responsibility."

Main duties of the job

Provide support to the Named Midwife for Safeguarding to deliver training, supervision, advice and support to staff within the Maternity Services

Review, develop and update policies and procedures and systems

Support the named midwife in attendance at multi-agency safeguarding and child protection meetings

Take a lead role in raising awareness of safeguarding topics, ensuring a visible presence and role modelling good safeguarding practice within maternity services

Support the Named Midwife in sharing and embedding learning from internal and external incidents and reviews, gathering evidence through audit, staff feedback and monitoring of incidents.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Registered Midwife - Registered with the NMC Educated to 1st Degree level or equivalent Continued professional development relevant to safeguarding practice

Desirable

Teaching and Assessing Qualification or relevant experience

Knowledge and Training Essential

Sound knowledge of safeguarding issues and legislation affecting pregnant women, babies and families Sound knowledge of current safeguarding children and domestic abuse agendas, priorities and legislation Knowledge of trauma informed practice and Adverse Childhood Experiences Understanding of how parenting capacity impacts on safety and wellbeing babies and children

Experience Essential

Experience of working as a community midwife Experience of managing complex safeguarding cases, making referrals and analysing risk Experience of supporting victims of domestic abuse Experience of professionally challenging decisions and escalating concerns

Communication and Relationships Essential

Demonstrate influencing and negotiation skills Able to communicate concise and detailed information verbally and written Able to advise other agencies regarding health management of women, unborn babies and children
