Are you looking to develop your career in psychology while making a meaningful difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities?
We are seeking an Assistant Psychologist to join our well-established Tri-borough Learning Disabilities Service in Kensington and Chelsea. Our multidisciplinary team works closely with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Learning Disabilities Social Care Team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills while supporting adults with learning disabilities,autismand people whose behaviour may be perceived as challenging. You will work directly with service users, families,carersand partner organisations, while receiving regular supervision from experienced psychologists.
You will hold a degree in Psychology (or postgraduate qualification in Psychology) and have knowledge of research methods, dataanalysisand IT systems, alongside the ability to communicate information clearly and accurately in writing. An understanding of learning disability services and the ability to work collaboratively are important. Relevant experience may have been gained through employment, placements, voluntaryworkor other settings.
The service has strong links with North London Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training programmes and regularly supports trainee placements, providing a supportive learning environment with opportunities for professional development.
Main duties of the job
Working under the supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist, you will:
Support protocol-based psychological assessments using appropriate assessmenttools, structured observations, interviews,questionnairesand psychological tests, including neuropsychological assessments whereappropriate. Contribute to the formulation,planningand delivery of psychological interventions for adults with learning disabilities in community,inpatientand residential settings.
Assistwith the planning,coordinationand delivery of therapeutic groups.
Work alongside multidisciplinary colleagues to assess needs, reviewcareand contribute to person-centred care planning.
Help develop psychologically informed approaches that enhance care across the service.
Work collaboratively with service users, families,carersand partner organisations to support positive outcomes.
Contribute to service evaluation, audit, researchactivityand data analysis to support service improvement.
Maintainaccurateclinical records and work in line with professional, organisational and NHS standards.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
A minimum 2:1 honours degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable
Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health and/or learning disability practice and/or research design and analysis.
Experience Essential
Work with people with learning disabilities and those who have a dual diagnosis (i.e. additional mental health problems).
Desirable
Experience of paid work in direct care provision. Experience of working in the NHS.
Skills Essential
High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with learning disabilities and those who have a dual diagnosis (i.e. additional mental health problems). An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health/learning disability context.
