We are delighted to be recruiting to our established Occupational Therapy Rotation and currently have three permanent Band 5 opportunities available.
We are seeking motivated, enthusiastic, and compassionate Occupational Therapists to join our supportive and dynamic team. These posts are ideally suited to newly qualified Occupational Therapists or existing Band 5 clinicians looking to broaden their experience across a diverse range of clinical settings.
Our rotational programme offers opportunities across the Trust's main hospital sites:
Darlington Memorial Hospital (Acute) University Hospital of North Durham (Acute) Bishop Auckland Hospital (Sub-acute Rehabilitation) Rotations provide experience in a variety of specialist areas, including:
Acute Medicine Surgery and Orthopaedics Elective Orthopaedics Front Door Frailty Services Complex Frailty Units Acute Stroke Stroke Rehabilitation General Rehabilitation Wheelchairs and Specialist Seating Services As part of our commitment to providing high-quality patient care, we operate a 7-day service and all rotational staff are required to participate in weekend working on a rotational basis.
Successful candidates will receive a comprehensive induction programme, enrolment onto the Trust's Preceptorship Programme, and access to a wide range of departmental training and development opportunities to support their professional growth.
Main duties of the job
As a rotational Occupational Therapist, you will:
Deliver high-quality, patient-centred assessment, treatment and rehabilitation programmes, working with individuals and groups to achieve meaningful outcomes. Assess patients' functional abilities and home environments, recommending equipment, adaptations and support to facilitate safe, timely and appropriate discharges from hospital. Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical records in accordance with Trust policies and professional standards. Work collaboratively as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to effective care planning and delivery. Provide education and training to colleagues and wider staff groups to support best practice and enhance patient care. Participate in audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives, sharing findings and supporting service development. Deliver evidence-based, person-centred interventions that promote recovery, independence and wellbeing. Develop increasingly advanced clinical knowledge and skills, demonstrating professional competence and a commitment to continuous learning and development. Support, supervise and appraise therapy support staff, contributing to their ongoing development and performance. Support the education and development of Occupational Therapy students through supervision on practice placements, either directly or alongside a Practice Placement Educator.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Qualifications Essential
Degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy. Prepared to undertake practice placement qualification and support in the education of students.
Special Requirements Essential
A proactive ability to represent the profession and the Trust with positive enthusiasm, commitment, motivation. Full UK License to have the ability to travel across the Trust area to meet the requirements of the post with the willingness to work flexibly. Ability to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day and to carry out concurrent activities. Ability to cover working pattern across a 7 day service.
Experience Essential
Comprehensive experience at undergraduate level of the core competencies within occupational therapy. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team. Prior experience of working in a variety of health care settings
Special Skills & Knowledge Essential
Broad knowledge of current practice in occupational therapy and health. Application of the occupational therapy process with the designated patient group. Planning and co-ordination of occupational therapy intervention. Ability to manage own workload, determine priorities, delegation and work under pressure. Understanding of professional conduct and confidentiality. Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance. Application of Health, Safety and Risk management policies. Applied knowledge of current legislation. Written and oral communication skills in English sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, to gain consent and explain treatment interventions. Well-developed interpersonal communication skills with the ability and self-awareness to modify style to suit situation. Computer literacy with ability to effectively use computer software to support Occupational Therapy interventions. Basic knowledge of the principles of clinical governance. Evidence of participation in continuing professional development.
Desirable
Courses completed relevant to post. Knowledge of the discharge planning process.
