Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, proactive and enthusiastic Therapy Assistant to join the Physiotherapy Service at Barnsley.
You will work within the acute inpatient medical team, supporting the assessment and rehabilitation of patients with a wide range of medical conditions. Working alongside physiotherapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team, you will help patients improve their mobility, function and independence, contributing to safe, timely discharge planning.
We are looking for a caring, empathetic and approachable team player who is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. You should have excellent communication and organisational skills, a flexible approach and the confidence to work with patients who may have complex physical, cognitive or emotional needs.
The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic and supportive team delivering a seven-day physiotherapy service. As such, the post includes participation in weekend and bank holiday working, helping to ensure patients receive timely rehabilitation and safe discharge throughout the week.

Main duties of the job
Following assessment and delegation by a registered physiotherapist, you will:
Deliver prescribed mobility, exercise and rehabilitation programmes within your agreed scope of practice.
Support patients with transfers, walking practice, functional activities and the safe use of mobility equipment.
Encourage and motivate patients to participate in their rehabilitation and work towards agreed goals.
Observe patients' progress and promptly report any concerns or changes in their condition to the supervising physiotherapist.
Assist physiotherapists where two members of staff are required for safe patient handling or more complex rehabilitation.
Prepare and maintain treatment areas and ensure equipment is clean, safe and available for use.
Maintain accurate, timely patient records and complete relevant activity data.
Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and members of the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to discharge planning by supporting functional assessments and the provision of appropriate equipment.
Follow infection-prevention, confidentiality, safeguarding, moving-and-handling and health-and-safety procedures.
