Job summary
This fixed-term maternity cover post supports the safe, effective and efficient day-to-day delivery of Aseptic Services, including chemotherapy and TPN preparation, across The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust and associated services.
The post holder will support operational coordination, staff allocation, training, quality monitoring, environmental monitoring, audit activity and service improvement, ensuring activity is delivered in line with Trust procedures, GMP, QAAPS, COSHH and relevant professional standards.
Working closely with the Principal Technician, Principal Pharmacist and wider pharmacy team, the post holder will help maintain service continuity, timely treatment preparation and robust quality governance during the maternity cover period.
Main duties of the job
Service Delivery
Coordinate day-to-day aseptic workload, staff allocation and workflow to support timely chemotherapy, TPN and aseptic preparation.
Support safe, efficient service delivery across the aseptic unit, peripheral services and chemotherapy-at-home arrangements where required.
Maintain effective communication with pharmacy, clinical teams, wards, departments and external stakeholders to resolve operational issues promptly.
Contribute to worksheet, prescribing-system and documentation updates, including supporting changes linked to contracts, clinical trials or service requirements.
Participate in weekend, bank holiday and extended-hours rotas as required by the service and wider pharmacy department.
Quality and Governance
Support compliance with GMP, GCP, GDP, QAAPS, COSHH, Health and Safety requirements, Trust policies and relevant professional standards.
Support the review, implementation and training of SOPs, policies, change controls and quality documentation.
People, Training and Supervision
Support induction, training, competency assessment and annual revalidation for aseptic technical and support staff.

Qualifications Essential
Recognised current Accredited Checking Technician and / or Pre and In-Process Checking (PIP-C) qualification NVQ Level 3 or equivalent AND BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or a recognised equivalent qualification Registered technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council Evidence of CPD and study beyond qualification
Desirable
Formal leadership training/qualification Experience providing Medicines Management Services Formal digital/IT/EPMA training or qualification Validated operator in Aseptic Preparative Services
Knowledge Essential
Provision of ward based and dispensary based pharmacy services Manipulation, analysis and interpretation of data. Use of databases and the internet for retrieving medicines information Demonstrate an understanding of current pharmacy / NHS issues Contact with prescribers & nursing staff Negotiation & influencing of other health care professionals Understanding of all laws relating to the safety and security of medicines, dispensing and supply Developing datasets for business cases, reports and audits Able to plan, co-ordinate, develop and adjust own work and the work of others for all aspects of the role Able to develop and work effectively with a wide range of pharmacy staff experience, qualification and knowledge Previous experience in delivery of training/assessing staff Experience of supervising and training of staff Understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management
