Job summary Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking for a varied and rewarding role where you can make a lasting difference to children and young people?
We are looking for a passionate and innovative Speech and Language Therapist (Band 7) to join our Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service. This unique role combines three days each week within the Youth Offending Service with two days supporting community clinics across Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock, giving you the opportunity to work with a diverse range of children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
Main duties of the job You'll manage a specialist caseload, providing high-quality assessment, intervention and clinical leadership for children and young people with developmental language disorder, speech sound disorders and complex communication needs. Alongside your clinical work, you'll play a key role in developing services, supporting colleagues through supervision and second opinions, and working collaboratively with schools, families and partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician who enjoys combining direct clinical practice with leadership, service development and partnership working.

Main Duties of the Role As a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will:
Deliver specialist assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based intervention for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs across community and Youth Offending Service settings. Manage your own complex caseload autonomously while contributing to the wider development of the local service. Work closely with children, young people, families, schools and multidisciplinary teams to develop personalised care plans that improve communication and participation. Provide specialist advice, consultation and training to professionals across education, health and social care. Support and develop less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, Therapy Assistants and students through supervision, mentoring and clinical guidance. Lead on designated clinical pathways and contribute to service improvement, quality initiatives and clinical governance. Work collaboratively within the Integrated Therapies Team to deliver joined-up, child-centred care. You will:
Be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with the HCPC and RCSLT. Have significant post-registration experience working with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs. Demonstrate highly developed assessment and clinical reasoning skills. Be confident working independently whilst contributing positively to multidisciplinary teams. Enjoy supporting and developing colleagues through supervision, mentoring and training. Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively with families, schools and partner organisations. Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes, Essex.
Probationary Period This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement – Fringe (Basildon, Thurrock, Brentwood, Harlow and Dartford only) This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,303 to a maximum of £2,198 p.a. pro rata for part time)
