About this role

Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for day-to-day administration duties related to that of a support secretary to ensure the management of timely diagnostic reports and patient correspondence for our pathology service. You will work closely with the Office Manager and Medical Secretaires and support the Consultant team to ensure that all service requirements are met. You will be expected to always show respect and dignity towards your colleagues and patients.

The post holder will be based in the administration office in Warrington Pathology Department and will be working across all sections of pathology. You will need to liaise with clinicians at all levels, managers within the Trust and with external organisations. You will be speaking directly with patients liaising with them regarding their appointments and occasionally supporting with the typing of clinical letters.

The post holder will be expected to work independently to manage their own workloads in line with service requirements and local/national policies.

The confidential nature of all work concerning patients must be understood and safeguarded. The Medical Secretary is part of a team and must regard the interests of the patient as paramount and, as such, must be aware of the Data Protection Act (1998) and be aware of the consequences of the failure to comply with it.

Qualifications Essential

Educated to GCSE Grade A to C Level in Math's and English. RSA Typing II or equivalent. Customer Service Course or equivalent experience Level 3 Diploma or equivalent Trust competencies and experience ECDL or equivalent experience. Audio typing qualification or equivalent qualification/experience.

Desirable

Medical Terminology. Diary Management experience.

Experience Essential

Previous Medical Secretarial experience. Ability to empathise and support colleagues. Highly motivated with a flexible approach to his/her work and working pattern.

Previous medical secretarial/administrative experience. Knowledge/experience of patient administration systems
