About this role

Job summary

The post-holder will lead and supervise the catering team in the provision and delivery of all catering services with specific responsibilities for patient meals, retail and hospitality catering.

This is a 30 hour position working Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm, but with flexibility to meet the service needs.

Main duties of the job

Adhere to Trust policies and procedures and relevant legislation including the requirements of the any professional bodies Attend mandatory training as identified by the Trust Supervisor and first line manage the catering team on a daily basis Carry out catering duties to ensure service continuity Maintain and promote open communications with the direct team and the management team Bring innovation and new ways of working into the service to ensure the service meets customer demand and market trends as well as being compliant with current NHS initiatives. In agreement with other team members and the management team, adjust work programmes in line with agreed practice in the event of absences and strategic service review changes Inform the catering manager when difficulties occur in maintaining work programmes or with equipment. In the absence of the catering manager liaise with the head of facilities when advice on work programmes is required Make adjustments to work programmes in liaison with other team members Ability to work on own initiative

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English Food Safety Level 3 or above NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in catering or team leadership

Desirable

HACCP Level 3 Senior Production Chef Level 3 Apprentice

Experience Essential

Food Safety Knowledge Cooking a varied menu using fresh ingredients Working in a fast paced ever changing environment First line management

Desirable

Hospital or public sector catering environment

Knowledge Essential

Basic Knowledge of Health & Safety Understanding of responsibilities under HASAWA Understanding of COSHH Understanding of HACCP Cooking skills and knowledge Portion control Standardised recipe knowledge Cash handling

Skills/ Abilities Essential

Ability to understand and adhere to standards and procedures Able to influence motivate and help staff when necessary Possess excellent hygiene standards Good interpersonal skills Ability to operate kitchen equipment. Good communication skills Creative thinker, team leader and team player
